Day 1 – Building an online Business
Today I spent a little over 2 hours working – and this is what I accomplished.
- Created my first Landing Page in Get Response
- Created the first 2 emails in my Auto-Response series for the Landing page
- Email 1: A thank you email with a link to the free downloadable Lead Magnet
- Email 2: A short email with a bio about me, as well as a link to a 2 question google survey asking what users expect to get out of this program.
- This short blog post updating you about my actions today.
Today I woke up early, about 4:30 am. I was excited to work on my site, and share with you the next steps in developing the program. If you are like me, and I know you are because you are reading this, you love to see the behind the scenes (BTS) for creating an online course. I’m here for you!
My Current Morning Routine
I’m not one who has an elaborate morning routine. I don’t do cold plunges, or have a 37-step skin care routine. I almost never meditate, or journal that early. When I wake up all I want is a cup of coffee.
I’m not a coffee connoisseur. I like a simple cup of regular joe. No cream, no sugar. Not too strong. Just something warm and soothing with a little kick to get my day started.
I start by filling my simple kettle ($10 on Amazon) with some tap water, and then boiling it on the stove. I then put 2 scoops of Peet’s Major Dickason’s Coffee (I’ve been drinking it for decades), and then using my COSORI Pour Over Coffee Maker with a Stainless Steel Filter.
Then I got to work.
Making a Landing Page in Get Response
The first thing I did was to create a Landing Page in Get Response. I used the AI Generator which provided a great start. It prompted me with some questions about my business, my audience, and what I wanted to achieve, and then presto! A fantastic landing page with a strong CTA (Call to action), amazing stock photography, and incredible layout appeared.
While I could have used it just as it came, I decided to slightly modify it to suit my needs. Using the easy to understand WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor, I moved some things around, adjusted the fonts, and colors, and made it match my overall website aesthetic a bit more.
If you want to see my final design, just click this link to see my Landing Page.
I clicked the publish button, and Get Response even hosted the page on their site. All I had to do is link to it from anywhere I want.
Creating my first Email Autoresponder in Get Response
Next I turned to creating my email auto responder.
When someone enters their email on my Landing Page, I promised they would get a copy of my free Retirement Accelerator Program Step by Step Guide.
So using the techniques described in these Lead Magnet blog posts, I uploaded the PDF version to the Media section of my WordPress Website. Then I grabbed the direct link to that file, and put it in the body of the thank you email that first goes out when someone enters their email.
After all, that’s the goal and premise of a Lead Magnet – an exchange of value – in this case an email for a guide that solves my client’s problem of getting started in Passive income in Retirement.
While I was at it, I designed my second email. It has a short poll asking what people will expect out of the program, as well as a little bio about me.
Over the next few days, I’ll write more emails to complete my Autoresponder series. By the time I’m done, I’ll have some raving fans who can’t wait to learn more about the program.
Ending the day
So the rest of the day went by as it usually does.
Now I’m relaxing on the couch, writing this post to share with you my accomplishments.
