Over the years, I’ve tried lots of different ways to start an on-line business. Some have been successful, but many have not. Through this trial and error, I have learned what the the actual first steps are that are required for success. I can, with 100% certainty tell you that success comes from a place of giving. In the world of on-line marketing this is called a lead magnet. It when you trade a small digital product for someone’s email. Today I will teach you how to build your first Lead Magnet.
There is a reason I say to start with a digital product is because all your other marketing efforts should be to drive people to give you their email.
What is a Lead Magnet?
It is important to define some terms so we are all on the same page. Let’s begin with what a lead magnet is, and then why it is so important in on-line and social media marketing.
Start all your efforts from a place of giving
Starting all your marketing efforts from a place of giving is essential because it lays the foundation for building strong, trusting relationships with your target audience.
By providing value upfront through lead magnets, valuable content, or helpful resources, you demonstrate your expertise and genuine concern for your audience’s needs.
This act of giving fosters a positive perception of your brand and encourages reciprocity, leading potential customers to be more receptive to your marketing messages.

My definition of a Lead Magnet
A lead magnet is a valuable and enticing piece of content or offer that businesses provide to their target audience in exchange for their contact information, usually their email address.
It is designed to attract potential customers and encourage them to willingly share their details, thereby becoming leads in the marketing funnel.
Lead magnets serve as a powerful tool for email list building and are used to nurture and engage prospects, ultimately leading to conversions and sales.
Common types of lead magnets include eBooks, guides, checklists, templates, webinars, free trials, printables, handouts and any other content that addresses the audience’s pain points and provides relevant solutions or information.
The Importance of Lead Magnets in Marketing can’t be underestimated
I am always thinking of new ways to provide value to my clients – I truly want to teach, and help others succeed at making passive income during retirement. After talking with so many different people all around the country I know that my story is not that unique.
So many people don’t have enough during retirement, and it doesn’t have to be that way!

Everybody has an email address. They are as common as a phone number, social security number, or home address. In fact most people actually have several, and usually there is minimal difference between their personal and work accounts.
Additionally, it is rare for someone to abandon their email address – if you are like me, you have had your main one for years. I personally have one that is over 20 years old that I still use daily! All my friends and family know it, and it is the one that I use for most of my transactions.

III. The Fallacy of Focusing Solely on Social Media Numbers
Sure it is fun and cool to have a lot of followers on Tik-Tok or Instagram. Who doesn’t want a YouTube video with a million views? Or to be in charge of a very active Facebook Group.
The problem with all those platforms is that you don’t have any control over them. I know people that have spent years growing a following only to have it wiped out overnight.
Someone might complain about your content, and after a few strikes, you are banned.
Maybe you inadvertently break the Terms of Service, and get shut down.
Or perhaps the service or company just goes bankrupt and just like that “poof” it is gone.

But as a marketer, Social Media can be a deep trap that is easy to fall into.
There are lots of different parameters to pay attention to, but very few people actually know what really matters.
It is a common mis-conception that success on social medial means a large follower count, and that each post has a lot of likes.
But in reality the most important parameters to follow are reach and engagement.
To GROW you audience you need to reach more new people with every post. Not just entertain your current followers.
